Rinna said: "It was sad to see after 72 years that show cancelled, but to me, it's just the beginning. I think it's going to start a trend. It's a dying genre. I think it's really something that won't be around, maybe in five years."
Meanwhile, veteran network programmer Fred Silverman predicted the end of most daytime soaps at a TV symposium at Syracuse University last week. "They're very expensive to produce and they continue to shrink. I think in the next five years, three or four will survive out of a group that used to be 15."
