Bangladesh soap opera aims to help farmers
The creators of a new soap in Bangladesh said they were hoping it will teach farmers in one of the world's poorest nations new tricks to boost their income. The Dhaka branch of the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) has produced the eight-episode drama, JIBONER JALCHOBIi ("Reflections of Life"), which will air weekly until August on a private satellite channel.
"It aims to help farmers to learn about new technology and to improve their incomes," said Zainul Abedin, of IRRI Bangladesh. "It shows how small scale changes can help."
Bourne to read in WWE
World Wrestling Entertainment star Evan Bourne took education very seriously. A college graduate, the high-flying Bourne is no airhead as he is helping spearhead the WWE SummerSlam Reading Jam promotion, encouraging reading among today's youth.
"My elementary school is one of the places where I grew the most. We had the book mobile always stopping at our school. I enjoyed reading when I was very young and when I was in college."
In between, Bourne attended Parkway West High School in St. Louis (same high school attended by Tuc Watkins).
Stars Support Autism Organizations
A conference on autism will be held this weekend at the Radisson Fort McDowell Resort and Casino in Fountain Hills, Arizona. The conference will educate families and physicians on the medical treatments which are helping children improve. Approximately 300 physicians and parents are expected to attend the 3rd annual conference titled: From Roadblocks to Recovery. Celebrities scheduled to attend are Patrika Darbo and Kevin Dobson from DAYS OF OUR LIVES, Chris Rich from ANOTHER WORLD and Daniel McVicar from THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL.
