NJN Public Television and Radio will be airing THE GUIDING LIGHT TRIBUTE this week, providing a behind-the-scenes look at the production of an episode of GUIDING LIGHT, the longest running drama in television and radio history.This special looks at the making of an episode of GUIDING LIGHT, which has appeared on radio and television for 72 years. THE GUIDING LIGHT TRIBUTE was produced and directed by Tom Philips and hosted by executive producer Frank Dicopoulos, who played the role of Frank Achilles Cooper, Jr., for over twenty years on the popular soap opera. Viewers get to see the actors, technicians and crew as they work together on a typical day to produce one episode of GUIDING LIGHT.
The show was originally created as a 15-minute radio show in 1937 for a sponsor intending to sell soap to housewives -- hence the name "soap opera".
