Uh oh! One of the best new "soaps" to launch in primetime in recent years is on the chopping block...after ONE episode. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the ratings for Fox's LONE STAR were so abysmal in its first night that the network may cancel it before airing another. Could airing a pilot at the same time as the Season Premiere of DANCING WITH THE STARS have had anything to do with the low ratings? And THE EVENT? And the CBS juggernaut Monday lineup?This is not good news, soap fans. LONE STAR is a quality production all the way. It does has familiar aspects to it, no doubt. There are clear influences ranging from DALLAS to NURSE JACKIE, as this show presents intriguing conflicts of power, deceit, and the cost of living a double life. It is unusual these days for network television to broadcast a scripted drama that isn't an easy-to-figure out formula (ie, the LAW & ORDER and the NCIS franchises). This show is unpredictable, suspenseful, sexy (see photo), and requires a certain amount of attention from its audience.
