WE LOVE SOAPS TV has heard from numerous sources that Christopher Goutman, most recently executive producer of the canceled AS THE WORLD TURNS, and prior to that the executive producer of the canceled ANOTHER WORLD, is joining THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS directing team. While he is a very good and award-winning director, and Y&R could probably use some new blood based on recent episodes, this news can't been seen as good by many fans. The last few years on AS THE WORLD TURNS were an uneven mess.
The scariest part is soap fans have seen moves like this in the past many times, where someone comes on in a certain position, many times as a consultant, and before you know it, they've taken over the show. Despite its flaws, Y&R can still be great, so I'm praying this is someone not the way things are going for the number one daytime soap opera in America.
What do you think? Would you be happy to have Chris Goutman as part of the Y&R team in any capacity? If someone can confirm this information is not correct, I will happy to listen. We have not received confirmation from the Y&R team yet. If someone could tell me Goutman's amazing and talented wife Marcia McCabe was working on soaps again I wouldn't even care about anything else.
UPDATE: WE LOVE SOAPS TV has received confirmation that Goutman is definitely directing one episode of Y&R. Another source has said it will be two episodes but we can't confirm at this point. Soaps fans are still speculating this is all a means to an end with Goutman ending up as Co-EP of the show at some point. Up and coming AS THE WORLD TURNS director Habib Azar has been directing at Y&R since May and has now directed nine episodes.
