David Tom is returning to THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS as Billy Abbott, replacing two-time Emmy winner Billy Miller, who opted to leave. He will debut on February 3. After a new contract between Miller and Y&R wasn't reached, the soap brought actors in to read as possible replacements including Tom, who played the role from 1999-2002.
"I respect Billy Miller's decision to move on and wish him great success in his future endeavors," tweeted Angelica McDaniel, head of CBS Daytime. "Please join me in welcoming Daytime Emmy winner David Tom back to #YR and @CBSDaytime as Billy Abbott's exciting storyline continues." Tom is the brother of Heather Tom (Katie, B&B).
Miller has played Billy since 2008. He will continue shooting at Y&R until December 19. His last airdate is currently scheduled for January 30.
Tom also won an Emmy for playing Billy as "Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series" in 2000. He is the brother of THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL star Heather Tom, who played Victoria on Y&R for many years.
