Gina Tognoni: 'Beyond Blessed to Play This Incredible Role of Phyllis Newman at Young and the Restless'

In a statement on her Facebook page, Gina Tognoni shared her excitement about taking on the role of Phyllis on The Young and the Restless.

"I am beyond blessed to play this incredible role of Phyllis Newman at Young and the Restless," she wrote. "I am thrilled to be back on CBS. Thank you for your support I feel it in my HEART. So excited to work with is Amazing cast and crew. I am grateful To my beautiful Husband, my family, friends and The best FANS in the world."

She also tweeted some additional thoughts.

Meanwhile, Y&R's original Phyllis, Michelle Stafford, took to Twitter to throw her support to Y&R's decision to recast the role with Tognoni. "Thx 4 the #GH [love] 2day Tweeps!" she wrote. "Now I want u 2 give [love] 2 @ginatognoni who will now b playing the role of #phyllis on #YR she will be awesome!!!"

Stafford returns to General Hospital as Nina Clay on June 3rd.
