Family and friends gathered to celebrate Christmas on As the World Turns (1965), Guiding Light (1979), General Hospital (1982) and The Young and the Restless (1992).

1965 — As the World Turns
Ellen Stewart (Patricia Bruder) confided in her husband David (Henderson Forsythe) about a Christmas long ago when she was pregnant. Their quiet moment was interrupted by Paul (Edmund Gaynes) and Dan (Jeffrey Rowland), who eagerly opened a gift from his grandmother. Later, David revealed he already knew the truth about Ellen’s child.



1968Dark Shadows
Barnabas Collins (Jonathan Frid) discovered Joe Haskell (Joel Crothers) had been attacked by the werewolf and brought him back to Collinwood. Chris Jennings (Donald Briscoe) later transformed into the werewolf before Joe’s eyes. Joe shot him—but the bullet didn’t stop the beast.

1971 — Another World
Jim and Mary Matthews prepared their home for Christmas Eve, reflecting on decades of family gatherings. As guests arrived, Jim urged John not to let work overshadow his family. Russ’ date, Dr. Paula McCray, shared her lonely childhood spent in boarding schools. Steven and Alice discussed her pregnancy and Steve’s complicated love life, while everyone joined together to sing Christmas carols.

1975 — Ryan's Hope
The cast sang "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" to close the show.



1979 — Guiding Light
At Cedars Hospital, Ed Bauer (Mart Hulswitt) read the story of the first Christmas to the children. Later, family and friends gathered at church, where Mike Bauer (Don Stewart) led hymns including “O Come All Ye Faithful,” “Joy to the World,” and “The First Noel.”



1979 — The Edge of Night
Christmas Eve in Monticello took a shocking turn when Miles (Joel Crothers) realized that Mrs. Corey was actually Nola Madison.



1982 — Search for Tomorrow
Andy’s dark mood on Christmas Eve raised questions, especially after Wendy (Lisa Peluso) gifted him a book of poetry. Elsewhere, Brian discussed his new TV station job with Martin (John Aniston), while Joanne (Mary Stuart) led friends in a traditional Christmas song. Later that night, Andy discovered Stu (Larry Haines) delivering presents—and read aloud from the poetry book that had stirred his emotions.

1982 — As the World Turns
Helene Udy debuted as Frannie Hughes just in time for Frannie’s birthday. Elsewhere, David and Ellen remarried, and Dee fell under suspicion in the supposed death of John Dixon.

1982 — Another World
Mac Cory (Douglass Watson) read a Christmas story to his daughter Amanda before reminiscing with Rachel (Victoria Wyndham) about their first Christmas on the estate.



1982 — General Hospital
Dr. Steve Hardy (John Beradino) continued his beloved tradition by reading the annual Christmas story to the children.



1985 — As the World Turns
The Hughes family celebrated Christmas Eve and Frannie’s (Julianne Moore) birthday. Even a mysterious gift couldn’t spoil the festivities as carolers arrived to serenade the group.



1986 — Search for Tomorrow
Jo (Mary Stuart) longed for life to return to the happiness she experienced in a dream.
Young Nicholas Newman (John Nelson-Alden) thrilled over his Christmas gifts, while Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) watched his family celebrate from outside the ranch—alone, as only Victor Newman can be.



1992 — As the World Turns
Margo Hughes (Ellen Dolan) received the results of her HIV test. Lily (Heather Rattray) left town.



1996 — One Life to Live
Todd Manning (Roger Howarth) desperately wanted to spend Christmas with Blair Cramer (Kassie DePaiva) and baby Starr.
Actor names were added to the opening theme sequence.



2002 — Guiding Light
Paul Rauch's final episode as executive producer aired.

2002 — As the World Turns
Natalie Snyder was born.

2003 — Guiding Light
During Blake’s Christmas Eve party, Ross (Jerry verDorn) and Blake (Elizabeth Keifer) were married.

The Forrester family gathered to sing “Joy to the World” at their Christmas celebration.



2004 — Guiding Light
Zach Spaulding received a butterfly arranged by his father before his death, triggering the show’s famous “butterfly effect.” The chain of events led to Reva and Cassie’s reunion, Olivia’s rescue, a romantic Gus–Harley moment, and a uniquely Guiding Light scene involving Lizzie, Coop, and Roxie the antler-clad dog.

2007 — All My Children
Tad Martin (Michael E. Knight) stunned Adam Chandler (David Canary) by announcing he had married Krystal (Bobbie Eakes).

2012 — In Memoriam
Actor Charles Durning, who originated the role of Gil McGowan on Another World in 1972, died at age 89.
