The daytime television community is mourning the loss of actor Robert Kelker-Kelly, best known for his memorable roles on Days of our Lives, General Hospital, and Another World. He was 62.
Kelker-Kelly died on Saturday, October 3, at his home in St. Peters, Missouri. According to local authorities, police responded to a call reporting an unconscious man who was not breathing. CPR was already underway when officers arrived, and additional lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful. Authorities noted that Kelker-Kelly had reportedly complained of chest pain shortly before becoming unresponsive. No suspicious circumstances were found, and the incident appeared to be the result of a medical event.
Born on April 18, 1964, in Wichita, Kansas, Kelker-Kelly launched his television career in 1987 when he joined the cast of NBC's Another World as Sam Fowler. The role marked the beginning of a successful daytime television career that would span more than two decades and earn him a devoted fan following.
In 1992, Kelker-Kelly stepped into one of daytime television's most challenging recasts when he succeeded Peter Reckell as fan-favorite hero Bo Brady on Days of our Lives. During his three-year tenure on the NBC soap, he appeared in nearly 600 episodes and became a familiar face to millions of viewers. He was part of two popular romances, with Carly (Crystal Chappell, pictured below) and Billie (Lisa Rinna).
Following his departure from Days, Kelker-Kelly returned to Another World in 1996 in the new role of Bobby Reno/Shane Roberts, further showcasing his versatility as a performer.
In 2001, he joined ABC's General Hospital as the villainous Stavros Cassadine, bringing a commanding presence to one of daytime's most notorious families. He reprised the role several times over the years, with his final appearance airing in September 2014.
While soap opera fans remember him for his larger-than-life characters, Kelker-Kelly quietly stepped away from the entertainment industry in recent years. He built a second career as a professional pilot in Missouri, choosing a life away from the spotlight while remaining fondly remembered by longtime viewers.
Throughout his career, Robert Kelker-Kelly left an indelible mark on daytime television, portraying heroes, villains, and complex characters that became part of soap opera history. His work on Another World, Days of our Lives, and General Hospital continues to resonate with audiences who followed his journey across some of the genre's most beloved series.
