Deep Soap: Many Happy Returns
Sara A. Bibel writes: "A few months ago, GENERAL HOSPITAL turned 45. You might have missed it, since the show only acknowledged the impressive milestone with a brief montage. In contrast, ONE LIFE TO LIVE is celebrating 40 years of life in Llanview with a three-day Valentine to its fans. Headwriter Ron Carlavati and Executive Producer Frank Valentini have cleverly constructed homages to classic OLTL storylines."
INTERVIEW: GH: NS's Antonio Sabato, Jr.
Sabato, Jr. tells Nelson Branco: "I’m not sure whom they are pairing me with romantically because I’ve only read the first few scripts. It would be weird if it was Robin, but I think Patrick will be jealous with Jagger walking around naked half the time [laughs]. I mean, who wouldn’t!"
"Use steamy TV soaps to talk sex with kids"
The authorities in the United Kingdom have advised parents to watch popular steamy TV soaps as an ice-breaker to conversations with their teenage children about sex and relationships.
Urging parents to make sex and relationships a part of everyday discussion, a report commissioned by the British department for children, schools and families, warned that breakdown of conversation in the home had contributed to surge in teenage pregnancy rates because it left youngsters vulnerable to influences from peers and the media.
"Parents should feed off the everyday and broach conversations about sex and sexual education as part of wider discussions. This provides a springboard for parents to communicate their values as well as helping teens challenge their own beliefs," the Daily Mail quoted the report, by teen agony aunt Anita Naik, as saying.
IMAGINARY BITCHES Recipient of Imaginary Views?
Is the latest breakout series on YouTube the beneficiary of view scamming?
An unexpectedly successful, non-studio affiliated show starring ALL MY CHILDREN actress Eden Reigel as a lonely-slash-possibly schizo girl who conjures imaginary friends, IMAGINARY BITCHES has been racking up the views lately: At least one episode has been viewed over 1 million times, and several other episodes have view counts in the high six figures.
Ostensibly, the show’s popularity is derived from Reigel’s star power, plus cameos from other soap actors such as Jessalyn Gilsig, Greg Rikaart and Elisabeth Hendrickson. The boldface names have prompted coverage in pubs including NYPost.com, US Weekly and TVGuide.com, and the series was recently featured on YouTube’s home page.
But despite these bona fides, at least one anonymous IB detractor — a tipster who wrote a detailed account of his suspicions to NTV — accused IB of using fake MySpace profiles, MySpace spamming and YouTube’s autoplay embeds to generates tens of thousands of fake views.
Working actress can size up audition
Lindsay Hollister (ex-Susan Adamson, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) says she’s one of the biggest actresses working in Hollywood today.
"It’s true,” the Rubenesque 31-year-old says by telephone from her home in Los Angeles. “I’m 5-9. I’m German. I come from big stock.”
Her sizable talent, however, makes Hollister stand out to casting agents.
On Saturday, Hollister, along with friend and Los Angeles casting agent Minda Cerva, will conduct an auditioning workshop at Goshen’s Center Stage Academy of Performing Arts.
