GL Fans Continue to Fight For Their Show

It's been almost a full week since the news of GUIDING LIGHT's cancellation by CBS was first reported. After the initial surprise, the GUIDING LIGHT fans began to rally and have shown incredible support and determination to save their show.

A petition of support has nearly 8,000 signatures and more than one website has popped up encouraging fans to rally behind the show. Fans have written and called to P&G, CBS, cable networks, the media and anyone else who will listen. They do not want this show to die.

On Friday the Tampa Tribune and California Chronicle published a story on the fan campaigns.

April Grant, who is co-creator of a GUIDING LIGHT fan forum, is among those encouraging viewers to write Proctor & Gamble, which owns the series, to show support for taking it to another network.

Grant, 41, whose online pen name is Destini, says that there are millions of fans who will follow GUIDING LIGHT wherever it goes.

"CBS has underestimated the audience for this show," she said in a telephone interview from her home in Vancouver.

"There had been rumors that it might be canceled, but we all thought it would be renewed for at least another year," she says. "It was a complete surprise that blindsided everyone, including the cast."

Grant appeared in two separate CBC radio interviews today as well and spoke out in support of GUIDING LIGHT.

Fans, including Tracey Smeltzer, will appear on a special episode of "BuzzWorthy Radio" on Wednesday night at 10:30pm ET as well.

With passionate fans like this, hopefully P&G's efforts to find a new home for the show will pay off, and the show will be given a chance to build on the momentum gained the past several months.
