GETTING IT RIGHT: The Soap Opera Weekly Cover

Now this is exactly what I was talking about in my previous post about the Soap Opera Digest cover date September 22, 2009. The Soap Opera Weekly cover features Reva Shayne (Kim Zimmer), Bert Bauer (Charita Bauer) and Roger Thorpe (Michael Zaslow) just as I had requested. Props to Lynn Leahey for reading my mind in advance and mostly for getting this exactly right (well, I would have replaced Bradley Cole with Beverlee McKinsey and Danny/Michelle with Ed/Rita but I won't be picky). Three Bauers, Reva and Josh, Otalia, The Four Musketeers and Roger/Holly all together are an excellent summation of the show - at least the past few decades.

I still feel that every soap magazine and blog should be featuring GL as much as possible until the end. A 72-year-old soap opera leaving the air is a huge milestone and no soap (or any scripted show for that matter) will last this long again. This is the definition of soap news. In terms of daytime, this is the biggest event of the decade (maybe ever since soaps were invented - I'll get back to you on that) and an entire issue could easily be filled up with GUIDING LIGHT memories and analysis on the state of the genre in 2009. If you are a fan of GL or of soaps in general, go buy this issue and show the folks at Weekly/Digest that fans value GUIDING LIGHT and soap history, and will pay to read more about it.
