Although Lisa Miller was not daytime television's first villainess (for example, LOVE OF LIFE's Meg having beat her to the screen a good decade earlier), there was something magical in Eileen Fulton's portrayal of this southern vixen which riveted viewers and kept AS THE WORLD TURNS at the top of the ratings throughout the 1960s and most of the 1970s. She even had her own primetime spinoff, OUR PRIVATE WORLD.
In her heyday, she had more husbands and lovers than anyone can ever be expected to keep track of, and as her love life petered out, she managed to transform herself into a successful business woman, owning, at various times, Fashions, the yacht club, a newspaper, the Lakeview Hotel, a restaurant, and various nightclubs.
Sadly, we haven't seen much of Lisa in the last several years, and it does not appear that she will find one last night in shining armor before the series end. I'd always hoped she would find her way back to Grant Colman somehow.
What was your favorite Lisa romance?
I loved Lisa and Earl Mitchell! The 80s were such a great time for the show! Thankfully, I've got a lot of the great stories recorded.
ReplyDeleteEarl was my second favorite of Lisa's husbands, that I saw. Would love to rewatch the original Lisa and Bob story. Since I didn't see that, Grant Colman is my first choice.
ReplyDeleteDidn't Lisa also own/buy the Wade Bookshop from Penny when she left town?
ReplyDeleteI'd pick Lisa and Grant, too.
I don't think Lisa ever owned it outright. She managed it for Penny, and then gave up management to Annie Stewart after the original shop burned down, and the shop was at Memorial Hospital.
ReplyDeleteGrant Coleman is my vote too.
Grant Coleman, without a doubt.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the writers even thought of Grant Colman when they gave Henry the last name Coleman but wish the spelling had been the same and there had been a connection.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely loved James Douglas (ex-Steven Cord, Peyton Place) as Grant Colman & Barbara Rodell as Joyce Colman (Grant's former wife before he married Lisa). They are among my wonderful ATWT memories from the middle-to-late 1970s/early 1980s! :-)
