Scott Bryce, the Emmy-nominated actor whose unforgettable portrayal of Craig Montgomery made him one of As the World Turns' most popular leading men, died Sunday, July 12, following a battle with esophageal and stomach cancer. He was 68.
The news was confirmed by Bryce's longtime friend Lucie Arnaz, daughter of television icons Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.
"A wonderful actor, a beautiful man and a terrific husband and father, Scott Bryce passed tonight," Arnaz wrote in a Facebook tribute. "I am going to miss his eyes, his smile, his wit, his brain, his intelligence, his talent, his bravery, his laugh and his hugs."
She also offered her condolences to Bryce's wife, Jodi Stevens, whom he married in 2003, and their son, Jackson.
"Dearest Jodi, dear Jackson, he's watching over you now from a place of pure joy and will always be your guide. But I hate these goodbyes. Rest in peace, you marvelous, magnificent man."
Bryce first appeared as Craig Montgomery in 1982, quickly transforming the ambitious businessman into one of As the World Turns' most compelling and complex characters. Whether Craig was scheming for power, fighting for love, or seeking redemption, Bryce brought undeniable charisma and emotional depth to every performance.
He portrayed Craig from 1982 to 1991, returned from 1993 to 1994, and made a final run in the role from 2007 to 2008. His work earned Daytime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 1986 and 1987.

While Bryce will always be remembered by daytime fans for his years in Oakdale, his career extended far beyond soaps. He appeared in numerous primetime series, including The Facts of Life, Blue Bloods, 30 Rock, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Sex and the City, showcasing his versatility across television.
In 2025, Bryce revealed he had been diagnosed with stage 3 esophageal and stomach cancer. Speaking on The Locher Room, he said he was initially reluctant to share his diagnosis publicly until his wife encouraged him to do so in the hope that his experience might help others facing similar battles.

Scott Bryce leaves behind a body of work that spans decades, but for soap opera fans, he will forever be remembered as the definitive Craig Montgomery. His performances continue to inspire, and his legacy will live on through the stories he helped tell.
