Today in Soap Opera History (June 21)

On this date in...

1952: The first TV version of ONE MAN'S FAMILY aired it's last episode.  The once a week primetime take-off of the popular radio soap opera was brought back to TV in 1954 as a daily afternoon serial.

1966: Edward Mallory debuted as Bill Horton on DAYS OF OUR LIVES.

1976: Deidre Hall debuted as Marlena Evans on DAYS OF OUR LIVES.  Mickey Horton was in a sanitarium and Marlena was the psychiatrist that treated him.

1966: Edward Mallory debuted as Bill Horton on DAYS OF OUR LIVES.

1976: Deidre Hall debuted as Marlena Evans on DAYS OF OUR LIVES.  Mickey Horton was in a sanitarium and Marlena was the psychiatrist that treated him.

1993: DAYS OF OUR LIVES debuted a new opening sequence.



2009: AS THE WORLD TURNS began using a title card instead of a full opening theme. The show would continue with this until its final episode.

WE LOVE SOAPS TV 1.22 Tom Chroust

On Episode 1.22 of WE LOVE SOAPS TV, Damon L. Jacobs goes on location to the "Gays of Our Lives" weekend event in New York City on March 27, and interviews ALL THAT MATTERS (ALLES WAS ZÄHLT) writer Tom Chroust, who previously wrote for FORBIDDEN LOVE (VERBOTENE LIEBE). Chroust talks about his writing career, the differences between German and American television and his meeting with AS THE WORLD TURNS head writer Jean Passanante. FORBIDDEN LOVE stars Thore Schölermann and Jo Weil make a surprise cameo during the interview.

The Gays of Our Lives - The International Event


Fans from as far away as Japan, New Zealand, and all across Europe are coming to New York City to meet the stars of their favourite gay storylines at The Gays of Our Lives International Event (www.gaysofourlives.org). The first-of-its-kind event – to be held March 26-28, 2010 – is the setting for this primarily online community to come face-to-face with the celebrities who portray some of television’s most innovative gay characters.
