FOX, Twitter and the Advertising Research Foundation Find More Than 90% of Those Who See TV Show-Related Tweets Have Taken Immediate Action To Watch, Search For or Share Content
1. The majority of those who are exposed to TV-related tweets not only have taken immediate action around a given show, but are also highly likely to watch a show they've never watched before, or resume watching a show that they'd previously stopped watching, as a result of a TV-related tweet.
2. TV show viewers who recall seeing tweets mentioning a show's brand partners are much more likely to view that brand as appealing and pay more attention to that brand's on-air ads than the general Twitter TV audience.

NEWS: Social Networking No. 1 Online Activity; Roku Beats Apple TV; Chris Fountain Controversy; Paula Garces Baby Show; Is THE NEWSROOM the Best Bad Show Ever?
Social networking was the most time-consuming online activity for Americans in 2012, followed by checking email, watching online video and using search engines.
Internet users in the United States between the ages of 13 and 64 spent an average of 37 minutes on social networks out of just over three hours online per day.
Roku Beats Apple TV In Homes With Streaming Media Devices
About 14% of all households have a streaming media device, twice the number that had one two years ago, research firm Parks Associates says. But the most interesting finding in its new report on trends in connected TV is that relatively tiny Roku handily beats the mighty Apple among people who own a streaming video media device. Some 37% go with Roku vs 24% who “primarily use” Apple TV, the company found in a survey of 10,000 U.S. broadband households early this year.

Nielsen Study: Tweets Found To Have Greatest Effect on TV Tune-In Rates in Competitive Reality Genre
Social media and TV programming have become fast friends, and, for many of us, the two are transforming how we watch television. In fact, Twitter has become a popular destination where fans can talk about their favorite TV shows in real-time. But do tweets drive consumers to tune-in to a program, or are viewers just chatting about shows they’re already watching?
The answer is both. A new independent study by Nielsen provides, for the first time, statistical evidence of a two-way causal influence between broadcast TV tune-in for a program and the Twitter conversation around that program. The study used time series analysis to determine if Twitter activity drives increased tune-in rates for broadcast TV and if broadcast TV tune-in leads to increased Twitter activity. By analyzing minute-to-minute trends in Nielsen’s live TV ratings and tweets for 221 broadcast primetime program episodes using Nielsen’s SocialGuide, the study found that live TV ratings had a meaningful impact in related tweets among 48 percent of the episodes sampled. The results also showed that the volume of tweets caused significant changes in live TV ratings among 29 percent of the episodes.

NEWS: Ziering Reunites with Doherty & Garth at Chippendales Show; Twitter Sundays; Holographic TV; Lynn Herring; Rob Kazinsky
Ian Ziering got a blast from the past on Sunday, June 30, when his former BEVERLY HILLS, 90210 cast mates Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty showed up at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas strip to catch the end of his run as a guest headliner for famed male dance revue Chippendales.
TRUE BLOOD's Rob Kazinsky: Nude Scenes Are 'Really Fun'
"The idea of being naked on screen was really intimidating," the British actor, 29, tells PEOPLE about filming love scenes for his new role as the "half-fairy," Ben Flynn, on the HBO vampire hit. "But after your first time it becomes really fun and incredibly freeing and empowering."
Why is Twitter so awful on Sundays?
“I try to avoid Twitter on Sunday nights because of precisely what you describe,” Jacob Silverman, a journalist working on a book about social media, told me. “It gets a little suffocating. What you see a lot is people forming their own tribes or communities, and as the same people start talking to each other, there’s a lot of mirroring of speech, with the same jokes and tics.”

TRUE BLOOD Preview: "The Sun"
Photo: HBO |
In the episode, titled "The Sun," a long-lost relative reveals himself to Jason and Sookie. After Tara is victimized by a new government weapon, Eric takes matters into his own hands in an effort to thwart Burrell’s anti-vampire initiatives. On the road to work, Sookie is drawn to a handsome stranger who shares her faerie abilities. Sam is unnerved by supernatural-rights zealot Nicole (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), and is confronted by Alcide and Martha (Dale Dickey) about Emma’s future. Bill contemplates the scope of his heightened powers.
Based on the popular Sookie Stackhouse books by Charlaine Harris, the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning hit series was created by Alan Ball, creator of HBO's Emmy-winning series Six Feet Under. The show follows waitress and part-faerie Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), who can hear people's thoughts, vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) and vampire Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard).
