THE REVOLUTION's Harley Pasternak Sued For “Malicious, Outrageous, Offensive and Intentional" Attack On Two Men

Celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak, co-host of canceled ABC Daytime talk show THE REVOLUTION, was busted in January for punching two Manhattan men in a squabble over a basketball court, according to a lawsuit filed Tuesday in Manhattan Supreme Court. Pasternak took a deal that forced him to sit through an anger-management class in exchange for making the misdemeanor assault charges from the January attack disappear. If he stays out of trouble, the criminal case will be dismissed. But now he’s got new legal woes according to the New York Daily News.

The men Pasternak socked are suing him, claiming the attack was “malicious, outrageous, offensive and intentional.”

GENERAL HOSPITAL Renewed! THE REVOLUTION Canceled

There is more good news in "The Year of the Soap" as GENERAL HOSPITAL has received a cancellation reprieve (for now). Some of the GH cast tweeted about a "one year renewal" today although ABC has said multiple times in the past that it owns its shows and does not do "renewals" for them. Deadline.com is reporting that ABC is canceling low-rated THE REVOLUTION and keeping GENERAL HOSPITAL on the air!

ABC will keep its only remaining daytime drama General Hospital on the air while canceling freshman talk show The Revolution. The news ends months of speculation about what will happen to the venerable soap whose long-time 3 PM slot will be taken over by Katie Couric’s new syndicated talk show in the fall.

THE REVOLUTION Still Paying $30 For Audience Members; Now "Untitled" With Expanded Age Range

We Love Soaps revealed earlier this month scoop about THE REVOLUTION's struggle to find people to attend a taping of the show. Not only is the show a disaster in the ratings, they advertised on a casting website a notice for "upscale" audience members who could earn $30 for being there in person. This week the show seemed even more desperate in a new plea for an audience. Instead of labeling themselves as "The Revolution" the casting notice read "Untitled Network Talk Show (NY)". You'll notice the age rage has been expanded as well.

Daytime TV Ratings: Week Of January 23-27, 2012 - THE REVOLUTION Drops

The daytime television ratings for the week of January 23-27, 2012 are starting to come in. THE REVOLUTION fell from 1.68 million viewers in its first week to 1.53 million in its second. The show also lost ground in the key demos. This post will be updated as new information arrives.

From CBS:
THE TALK, CBS's daytime talk show, delivered its largest audience ever and matched its all-time best women 18-49 ratings, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for the week ending Jan.27.

THE REVOLUTION Paying $30 To Be In The Audience

It is not easy to get into most talk shows in New York City but there is now one talk/lifestyle show that will pay you to show up, THE REVOLUTION. The show that replaced ONE LIFE TO LIVE in the ABC lineup premiered to pitiful ratings and it seems like securing audience members is proving as difficult as finding viewers.

THE TALK averaged 2.39 million viewers and 0.9/05 in women 18-49, the best in both categories since the week ending Feb. 4. 2011.

NEWS ROUNDUP: HOUSEWIVES Death, Justin Harley In Dixie, Tim Gunn Sexless 29 Years, DOWNTON Season 3, Demi Moore's Whip-Its

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES scoop: Major character dies!
The character (one of the wives? a husband?) is set to die in March. Though the actor obviously won’t appear in the much-anticipated finale, at least he or she will be available for pilot season. Many pilots have already been ordered for fall 2012 consideration and casting has begun.

Justin Hartley and Scotty McCreery coming to HART OF DIXIE
Hartley's character, a war hero, turns up the southern charm in his first return to The CW since the end of SMALLVILLE. AMERICAN IDOL winner McCreery will play himself.

Special-effects reel reveals that everything on BOARDWALK EMPIRE is fake
Special-effects reels are kind of a mixed bag for TV fans. On the one hand, it’s pretty cool to see how visually spectacular television can be cobbled together from half a building, a green screen, and a whole shitload of CGI. On the other, it can be kind of a dream-killer to see those eye-popping worlds you love to escape to every week reduced to wireframes.

THE REVOLUTION Panned By Critics, Flops In Ratings In Opening Days

THE REVOLUTION has been panned by critics, and was a flop in its first four days in the metered markets:

Monday, January 16
Lead-in: 2.3/ 6
THE REVOLUTION: 1.9/ 5

Tuesday, January 17
Lead-in: 1.9/ 6
THE REVOLUTION: 1.5/ 5

Wednesday, January 18
Lead-in: 2.0/ 6
THE REVOLUTION: 1.5/ 5

Thursday, January 19
THE REVOLUTION: 1.3/4

Below is one of our favorite reviews of the show that replaced beloved soap ONE LIFE TO LIVE:

Chicago Sun-Times: ‘The Revolution’ unfortunately will be televised
"What it actually delivers — besides one long Macy’s commercial — is a bunch of platitudes, lame tips ('embrace color'), television’s millionth makeover and advice from the no-duh handbook."

Of course it's all about the bottom line for ABC who feel they can make as much or more money by putting out a cheaper show with lower ratings. Time will tell on the profit margins but there's little doubt THE REVOLUTION will develop the type of brand loyalty ONE LIFE generated since 1968.

Tim Gunn, Ty Pennington: THE REVOLUTION Not Trying to Replace ONE LIFE TO LIVE

The final episode of beloved soap ONE LIFE TO LIVE airs this Friday. It will be replaced in the ABC lineup by the new lifestyle program, THE REVOLUTION.

Two of the hosts of THE REVOLUTION, Tim Gunn and Ty Pennington, urge viewers of ONE LIFE TO LIVE to give their own show a try when it premieres next week.

At the TV critics winter press tour in Pasadena on Monday, they both said they're not replacing the daytime soap, just offering something different.

Pennington said, "You guys know about EXTREME MAKEOVER, you know, that show got cancelled too. And that's something that's very, very special to me. But, you know, it's about change. And The Revolution is certainly about change."

The first email series creator J.D. Roth received last April upon learning that ABC had decided to air his new daytime series, THE REVOLUTION, came from his mother-in-law: "You killed Erica Kane!" She mixed up replacement shows, but the sentiment was correct.

Roth says he is sympathetic so soap fans.

"Part of me realized it's the end of an era for television, and I wanted to make sure we had respect for the many years of television that the soap operas provided."

Roth said the premise of the new series is that “a lot of people are on the hamster wheel of life and they want to get off.

“I think people want to be more connected. I believe this show ... is an opportunity to switch those switches back on."

Dr. Jennifer Ashton: THE REVOLUTION & THE CHEW Not Meant To Replace ONE LIFE TO LIVE & ALL MY CHILDREN

Dr. Jennifer Ashton, previously a medical contributor for CBS News, will report on health issues as one of the five regulars on THE REVOLUTION, the lifestyle-oriented show that is replacing ONE LIFE TO LIVE in ABC's daytime lineup on January 16.

She tells Zap2it that she feels for ONE LIFE TO LIVE fans.

"I feel empathy and sympathy for them," she says, "for the fact that something they were so attached to is no longer going to be there. I think we're very aware that a lot of those people will not have an open mind in terms of considering THE REVOLUTION or THE CHEW as shows they might be interested in watching.
